Many of us have experienced the benefits of bath salt. There is nothing like the revitalizing soak after a long day at work or school. Not only does it make us feel pampered and recharged, it also hydrates our skin. For this reason, bath salt has been used for hundreds of years by those who wish to revitalize themselves and make themselves feel better. Unfortunately, some people have turned against bath salt and have begun buying artificial products to replace bath salt in their beauty regimen.

While there’s no doubt that bath salts are an essential part of your overall beauty routine, there’s also a lot you need to know about the different salts on the market. You may be surprised to find out that bath salt is not primarily used as a beauty product, but rather as a health and beauty treatment. This is a big surprise for many consumers who have bought into the marketing campaigns and seen ads for expensive brands such as Dove and Olay. Although these products are well-known and have a reputation for being high quality and effective, most consumers don’t realize that bath salts can be used for a variety of skin treatments.

Unlike other bath products such as soap and shampoo, bath salts contain natural ingredients which provide benefits when combined with essential oils. Essential oils are concentrated plant fragrances that have healing properties. For example, lavender essential oils are used to help alleviate common colds, headaches and muscle tension. When added to bath salt, they provide a therapeutic soak that helps relieve minor muscle pain and tension.

In addition to providing a relaxing bath soak, essential oils are also beneficial because they help promote overall wellness. Peppermint oil is a great choice for cleaning your hair after using bath salts or when massaging the scalp. Both chamomile and geranium oils are excellent for relieving headaches and reducing stress, which are common side effects of using regular soap and shampoo.

Not only does bath salt possess a wide variety of benefits, it also has other uses such as in the kitchen. Rather than purchasing expensive kitchen equipment, you can clean your kitchen by mixing bath products such as sea salt and baking soda together. Salt is an excellent way to remove food particles and grime from your countertops, appliances and dishes. However, baking soda is much better as it has a neutral PH that doesn’t attract odors like sea salt does.

In addition to its cleansing and deodorizing benefits, sea salt is also excellent for skin care. It has numerous anti-inflammatory properties, which can help prevent sun damage by helping to reduce inflammation and reduce redness. Furthermore, essential fatty acids found in sea salt are excellent for skin health. Essential fatty acids can help moisturize dry and irritated skin, making it less painful and more appealing to the eye.

Other herbs that make bath salts include eucalyptus, peppermint, wintergreen, spearmint, and scuttelaria lateriflora. These essential oils are not truly necessary to make great bath product, but they do add an exceptional fragrance and a wonderful aroma. All these herbs have anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties and act as antiseptics, soaps, and cleansers. Eucalyptus is especially effective against bacteria and viruses, but spearmint, wintergreen and scuttelaria can be used against bacteria and viruses as well.

To make bath products such as bath salt and soap, you must use the essential oils that have been recommended by your aromatherapist or your family doctor. When purchasing essential oils, remember that you can buy them in varying strengths. For best results, you should always purchase the strongest essential oil that your medical professional recommends for your particular condition. This will yield the most benefit and the most pleasant aroma.
